Transhumance

Transhumance transforms texture into the memory of a territory. Merino wool from Spanish transhumant sheep is organised into a dense circular form reminiscent of an organic nucleus, an accumulation of matter that seems to have been slowly formed through repeated gestures of intertwining. The piece refers to the ancestral movement of herds and the cultural landscape that this displacement has shaped. By transferring this material to the sculptural realm, the work condenses history, geography and manual labour into a tactile surface that evokes shelter, transit and continuity between nature and culture.
