Halfway between sculpture, architecture and textile, the installation is presented as a sculptural pergola that seems to emerge from the ground as if it were an organic creature.
Conceived specifically for the restaurant’s patio, the piece proposes an immersive experience that amplifies the natural, social and spatial vision of this space designed by Lucas Muñoz thanks to the symbiosis of fabric and light, on a metal base that supports itself.
The materials used – iron and cotton fabrics – are the result of research centred on recycled textiles. This philosophy fits in with that of MO de Movimiento, the first initiative of Proyectos Conscientes, a company founded in 2018 by Javier Antequera and Felipe Turell to redefine the concept of urban leisure.
Inspired by the interconnectedness and transformation of underground life, the work poses a reflection on nature as a living system. Halfway between sculpture, architecture and textile, the installation is presented as a sculptural pergola that seems to emerge from the ground like an organic creature. On an aesthetic level, “An interconnected whole” generates an enveloping environment illuminated by a system of LED lights hidden inside, which inhabits the terrace as if it had sprung from the earth itself.
‘This installation is the result of the research and spirit that has guided this space since its beginnings. In line with its philosophy of connection with nature, the entire structure has been built from recovered and reused materials. In the metal structure, he has used ventilation pipes, recycled metal mesh, springs, bearings and iron from scrap yards.
The textiles, on the other hand, are 100% cotton antique fabrics, waterproofed with soy wax, without chemical additives or new materials”, emphasises the designer. This installation is also a milestone in Regina Dejiménez’s career, as it is her first large-scale sculpture conceived for outdoors. It is an experimental, open project in which she has explored new techniques and formal possibilities, challenging the limits of her usual practice.
The work stands on its own, as if it had a life of its own, and is designed to evolve over time, as a result of its exposure to the elements, which is expected to last a year. According to Felipe Turell, CEO of Proyectos Conscientes: ‘This collaboration, in addition to bringing an entity to our outdoor patio in a lively and artistic way, reinforces our commitment to talent, demonstrating the beautiful things that arise from reuse, the use of materials with a second life and creativity.’
Mo de Movimiento is a restaurant opened in 2020 that promotes alternative consumption in cities through a sustainable business model that supports local producers, local produce and social inclusion and integration.
Built from the rehabilitation of the old Espronceda Theatre following circular economy principles and a zero waste approach, it has been recognised with a dozen prestigious international awards in the gastronomic and design sector Proyectos Conscientes, founded in 2018 by Felipe Turell and Javier Antequera, opened Mo de Movimiento in 2020 and TRAMO, in 2023, both in Madrid. Both initiatives have become a benchmark for projects that focus on people and the planet.
