History is a constant source of inspiration in architecture, design, craftsmanship and art. Artists and creators look back to their predecessors to move forward with new ideas, sometimes with different objectives but with the same internal and personal need to create.

Soul+Matter – The Art of Spanish Craftsmanship, proposes a visual experience that evokes a tactile sensation in the visitor. A compelling combination of both contemporaneity and heritage. An exhibition that on the one hand exhibits the emotional labour of the creators and on the other hand the result of this same work through the material of creation.

The selected works on display highlight the tension between past and future, between preservation and change, transcending time while maintaining their essence and original context.

Spanish craftsmanship is internationally recognised for its rich heritage, quality andmeticulous attention to detail, and has resulted in timeless production that showcases the beauty and creative heritage of all its territories. The mastery of materials and techniques coupled with creative ability, has become a recognised standard and a heritage that has continued over the years, passed down from generation to generation.

A clear example of that heritage can be traced back to the work of architect Antoni Gaudí, who believed that craftsmanship played a vital role in achieving harmony between his architectural vision and the natural world.

His works are a testament to the symbiotic relationship between architecture and craftsmanship, revealing the beauty that emerges when skilled hands bring visionary designs to life. Gaudí’s works continue to remain soulful creations full of matter, genius and mastery in every detail.

Soul + Matter unites these two elements presenting more than thirty artists in an exhibition of more than 160 works which reflect that same vision. A vision which that of the writer and creative soul, Stefan Zweig and his book titled ‘The Mystery of Artistic Creation’, so eloquently describes as those magical moments where the artist, through his hands and his essence is lost in a parallel world.
Equal to this vision, and at a current time when the trend towards the digital surpasses any expectations, there is something both truly exciting and nourishing about experiencing works that are grounded in the physical world, that were made by the hands of creators and that we can touch, hold and understand.
